PILOT SERVICE(CPO)

Pilotage in Curacao goes back more than 100 years with pilots going from private entities to government employees to government-owned company employees. Currently pilots in Curacao are employed by the Curacao Pilots Organization (CPO), a subsidiary of CPA. Although the company is relatively new (established in 2002) most of the pilots have been in the field for much longer and hold years of piloting experience both locally and internationally, and are skilled professionals who continuously upgrade their knowledge through courses and simulation programs in Rotterdam.

Pilotage in the Port of Willemstad is compulsory for ships larger than 50 GT.
