CPA, KTK and CPO receive ISO 14001 certification

Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA), KTK and CPO hosted an event celebrating the receival of the companies' ISO 14001 certification.Last week Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA) announced that in addition to renewing its ISO 9001, the CPA group, consisting of CPA, KTK and CPO, also got certified for ISO 14001. This certification requires organizations to commit to continuously improve their environmental performance in a measurable manner.

“CPA decided to achieve the ISO 14001 because as the ports authority it’s important for us to set the right example in the port,” said Humberto de Castro, CPA Director. “We are aware that the future of all companies in our ports not only depends on having a sustainable business model but also on the environmental health of our harbours.”
An ISO 14001 presentation was hosted by CPA to highlight and celebrate this accomplishment. Guests included Minister of Economic Development, Stanley Palm; Director of Carmabi Foundation, Paul Stokkermans; representing Amigu di Tera and Defensa Ambiental, Lloyd Narain; and representing Stichting Uniek Curaçao, Theo v/d Giessen.
Preparations for the certification process started in March 2014 and ranged from training workshops for the entire CPA, KTK and CPO staff, creating environmental targets and objectives for 2015 – 2017 to internal audits by our own auditors. The final audit was done by Lloyd’s Register in April 2015 and resulted in the organization becoming ISO 14001 certified.
CPA, KTK and CPO their environmental objectives for 2015-2017 include to continue to reduce or eliminate the risk of pollution to sea, soil and air; reduce energy consumption by installing more energy efficient equipment; reduce the dependency on electricity generated by fossil fuels; use recycled materials where possible; separate waste collection and reduce pollution due to industrial waste; and analyze the problem of the disposal of sewage in the harbor of Curaçao.
