Emma Bridge temporarily out of service for repair work

Curaҫao Ports Authority (CPA) will take the Queen Emma Bridge out of service today for 2 to 3 weeks for repairs.

Willemstad, Curaҫao – Curaҫao Ports Authority (CPA) will take the Queen Emma Bridge out of service today for 2 to 3 weeks for repairs. Even though the bridge is scheduled to undergo a major refurbishment after the cruise season, a heavy beam that has subsided has to be replaced now.

On the Punda side of the bridge, the deck has subsided as a result of the weakening of the metal end beam under the part of the bridge that’s attached to the quay. The opening created between the deck and the shore, as a result, can be a danger to pedestrians. The fixed part of the bridge on the Punda side will therefore be removed so that the beam can be replaced.

CPA has already started the proceedings to fix the bridge as soon as possible. Since part of the bridge has to be removed during the work, the bridge will remain open and thus cannot be used during the repairs. The ferries will be used for the transport between Punda and Otrobanda for the duration of the work.

Following are the temporary ferry hours for the duration of the repairs:

Weekdays:

  • 05:00 – 06:00 – service with 1 ferry
